Vehicle exhaust can push CO into living spaces through shared walls or door gaps, so a detector near the interior garage door is standard practice regardless of whether the home has other gas appliances. The installer identifies every fuel-burning source and maps the required detector positions before any hardware is mounted, coverage gaps are found at the planning stage, not after the job closes.
Hard-wired CO detectors draw power from the home’s electrical circuit and include a battery backup, making them the more dependable choice where wiring is accessible. Battery-only units are used where hard-wiring is not practical. A common misconception is that a combination smoke and CO alarm covers both needs from a single unit, it can, but only if it is positioned correctly for both smoke and CO detection, which the installer confirms at each location.
